Katie Fowler
Hello
I am a recent graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago. I am a still life oil painter, but also love to paint humans. Let me know if i can do anything for you.

In a sense, my paintings are all self-portraits. I use still life as a vehicle to describe my relationships with others. I like to use objects metaphorically to create personal narratives. I really like the idea of creating a story about a person by painting objects. My relationships are immeasurable and each aspect of them can be portrayed in many different ways. As I grow my relationships grow with me and this evolution provides me an endless supply of subject matter.

Each new painting begins with a list of words to build a platform of meanings and subtleties that defines my connection to someone. Then I consider the objects that will fit into the story I’ve made. I usually have to find or construct the perfect objects. I consider colors next because color is important for the dynamism of the painting. I like to play with complementary colors. Every detail is planned before I start and sit with my objects then I decide on a final composition. The scale of my work invites the viewer to get up close and personal with the piece. This parallels the deeply personal aspect each piece holds.

I put myself into my paintings through my relationships with those I care about. As these relationships evolve and new ones are found, I will continue to put brush to canvas. I will create compositions that speak to my heart, and I will let life provide me with my perfect subject matter.
